Apology: re. Online marketing and Blogging

I want to apologize for not posting on here for a LONNNNNNGGGGG while.
I have been really busy with my day job - if you can call it a day job - as I am an Business Consultant - so do what ever it takes to pay the bills.

And as of late, 'what it takes' has been coming rapidly keeping me busy.

But that is GREAT in my business.

And it has been mainly from one excellent source - that may be a full time source soon.

The last 18 months I have been getting contracts for instructing classes for Olds College in the Business and Marketing programs. All last winter it was a full time (or even more of actual time) contract. Then when summer came and the students left - got another contract to develop a number of online classes.

So pretty sweet - get to use my online skills putting together online classes about marketing and business which is right up my alley.

But keeps my busy.

So any Internet marketing stuff (like this blog) does not get done as well as it should.

But hopefully that will change - as I have some plans for a few online projects that I started and want to get up and running. - It will mean a few late nights - but should be worth it.

GoTryThis Still the best link tracker

I have been looking, over the past 6 months, for a good - no scratch that - a great tracking program. One of the key things I have picked up on in learning about Internet Marketing is that testing and tracking is very very important. It can make the average marketer great.

So I wanted to know what was happening on all my sites. Who was visiting, how they go there, what links brought them there, what they did when they got there. All this information.

Well I quickly learned that there are really 2 sides to the tracking issue. The first can be described as Website Analytics. This is looking at your website, and watching who visits. Through log files, or code placed on your site, you can know alot about your visitor including the IP address, their location, which site they came from, etc. You can see what they clicked on, and what page they left your site from.

The other side of tracking is link tracking. This is knowing what is happening with all your links that are out there on the World Wide Web. This also includes email links. This is very important, as usually links represent you marketing efforts - things that you spent time and money on. So very important to know these results.

I never did find a program that could do both sides of the tracking. If you know of one, then I would appreciate you letting me know.

But I have found a few programs that will handle my tracking for me.

For Website Analytics, the best that I have found is Googles Analytics. This is offered free by Google, but comes with the limitation of only 5 projects (projects in my view equals websites). The second best - and it has some features better than Google Analytics - is StatCounter.

Statcounter is a free program that will track your visitors to you website very easily. The best thing is that you can set up as many projects as you like. And see the sumarized results all on one page - great for quickly checking what is happening on your sites.

For link tracking, it was a tougher search. There are programs that you pay monthly for, that offer a great service. There is also programs that you buy, and install on your server.

The best I had found was AdTrackZ. I did say ‘had’.

Now I found - or rather it found me - since the creator John Reel did a huge launch - was Go Try This.

TurboMembership Video

I have been playing around with video a bit more.
I am using my Sony Camcorder now. It is not a new digital (about 6 years old) but does have the ability to record digitally to a computer directly - or else onto tape.

So I connected it to the only computer I have that has FireWire connection. And it is working not too bad.

I did a number of test, and then made some intro videos. I want to add them to the beginning of camtasia screenshot recordings that I am doing.

Turbo Forum

WOW - there has been a surge in activity in the Turbo Forum in the last few months!

The Turbo Forum has always been a consistent place for getting answers to your online marketing questions. There are always the dedicated regulars there, and of course John is a regular contributor.

But lately a couple things have happened to really ramp up the action.

First of course is that John has released FANTASOS - his JvManager 2. And with a new section on the forum for support of this amazing software, there is lots of action in that area. That has also caused a spillover into the other forum areas.

Second is that we have had some excellent new members in TurboMembership lately (not that all members are not excellent). They have decided to take advantage of their membership by using the forum - which I believe is an excellent idea - one of the biggest assets to TM.

So this has made the forum very busy as of late, which has made the mods jobs a bit more hectic, but it is worth it.

If you are looking for a way to drive traffic to your website, look to your blog. Blogs are an excellent way to communicate with your target market and invite them to visit your site. Here are some tips you can use to blog for traffic.

Post on your blog regularly; at least 3 times a week. By updating your blog on a regular basis, you are giving your readers a reason to keep referring back to your blog. If you are providing timely and informative posts, your readers will see you as an expert in your field. They will turn to your blog as a way to seek answers to their questions. Posting regularly also develops a relationship between you and your customer. They will get to know you and trust your opinion.

By installing a feed burner onto your blog, you will make it easier to keep in contact with your customers. Your readers will be able to subscribe to your blog and choose to have new posts delivered right to their email or computer’s homepage. There are several services to choose from, and you can get a basic service for free. Setting up the service is easy; you simply install a small piece of HTML code onto your blog.

You can also opt to have a “blog roll” or list of blogs your readers may find helpful on the side of your page. If you put the link to another blog on your page, ask for a link back to your blog, too. This can help widen your audience, as readers of others’ blogs will see the link to your blog and check it out. Just remember to keep your target market in mind. It doesn’t make sense to trade links with just any blog.

One of the best, and easiest, ways to drive traffic to your website through your blog is to link back to your site as you post. Each time you put a new article on your site, you can write a “teaser” post containing an excerpt of the article and include a “read more” link to the page on your site that features the complete text. let me tell you my story . . . .

I am always busy (aren't we all). Most of the time I get lots and lots done. And keeping it all on track is my specialty. BUT

We All Are Responsible For Setting The Ethics In Online Marketing

In our world of online business, many things have gone wrong. In fact, something has gone terribly wrong. In the chase for wealth and success, business ethics have not so much fallen by the side of the road, as they have been worn to shreds, trampled on, and burnt to ash. At one time, perhaps there was a loose form of rules that applied, but now there only exists forms of chaos, greed, and hype. Maybe your little corner of the Internet is not quite this bad, but for most -- especially our prospective customers -- this is a daily online occurrence.

Business ethics require integrity. Integrity refers to reliability, consistency, and wholeness,. Ethical businesses take care of people with esteem, honesty, and integrity. They maintain their promises, and they honor their commitments.

The global, international concept of business is primarily based on the tenet of competition for limited assets. This results in the routine of getting the most out of one's gains at the expense of other people. This, in due course, has the outcome of creating a class structure of those who “have,” and those who “have not.” This is really equal to " eradicating the enemy" -- effectively, other human beings. This could even be viewed as a form of suicide, if we take into account the old cartoon character, Pogo. He is famous for saying that the enemy is “Us.”

A model of “ethics” is based essentially on moral principles. That is, the principles of right and wrong, as determined by the core human standards that we, as human beings, hold treasured in our hearts. These are underlying values of love, compassion, fairness, honesty, reverence, peace, joyfulness, success, harmony, beauty, and so many more of the greatest things in the experience of humankind.

Many of the ethical concerns that we may face are not clearly black or white. In actual fact, two people facing the same question could quite possibly make divergent decisions, while also judging that they each have made the best principled decision. Why? Because ethical judgements are established in accordance with one’s moral character. When it comes to honorable behavior, we each march to the beat of different drummers, and as such, will make different decisions that are poles apart, on similar issues.

In our new millennium with its expanded technologies, no one would debate that business ethics are being dissected now, more than ever. The Internet is not unaffected when it comes to the subject of ethics -- security of personal data, spam, privacy, and general considerations of trust are all factors with which the genuine online marketer must learn to contend.

We need to begin by remembering that appropriate marketing ethics in the offline world apply in the online world, just as much. For example, false advertising is still something that just shouldn’t be done. Simply put, never, ever attempt to hoodwink your customer, be prepared to support your claims, and always deliver on what you promise. That which you sell has got to have the exact qualities of what you claimed it to have.

Business ethics require a business plan. Without one, your promotions as well as your product, tend to be erratic. A company's ethics are built on its self image, its vision for the future, and its stance in the community. Business ethics do not take place in a vacuum. The more succinct the company's vision is for profits and service, growth, and stability, the more tenacious its commitment is, to ethical business practices.

As a business owner you must set your “acceptable level” for ethical behavior. Make integrity a mainstay value; be honest with your customers and employees; always follow the rules; never “bargain” with your principles; and remember -- the “right” thing is not always the reverse of the “wrong” thing. Follow the things in this short paragraph, and your customers will respect you. Your employees will keep on being loyal. These are essential ingredients to a thriving business.

While we can point accusatory fingers at corporations, lawmakers, and those in political places, we each have a personal accountability to be part of the cause and solutions for the ethical fabric of our everyday lives. So, how can we support one another in these raging disputes? What can we do to assist each other so that we all can arrive at ethical decisions, and conduct ourselves in the best ethical manners?

Again, I’d like to repeat that there is never a compromise for ethical standards. Not only is this important on an unseen, deeper level, it is also a basic component of long-term business or personal success. A breach of ethics does absolutely nothing to help a home-based business -- small and therefore more vulnerable -- but it does risk destroying what you’ve worked so hard to establish.

Every ethical business person should be encouraged, even challenged, to stand up and make your voice heard when you come in contact with unethical behavior. You not only have the right to do this, you truly have the responsibility to do so.

Life is just too short for wasting time with people who are not trustworthy and believable in their actions.

What's new with Turbo?

An update on what has been happening with John Delavera, TurboMembership and any products or offers.

The most exciting is JVmanager - JVM2 is just around the corner - the long awaited release is coming very soon - as in March.

I would totally disagree with him on this. The most logical argument is to outline what you get that you would use in a non-Internet Marketing niche, and see what that is worth. If more than the price of membership then stay in.

Hosting - $10 (this is low, but let's be totally fair)
Ebay tools and guides and reselling ability - any niche can use these to help their business and as an add-on - $10
Autoresponder - $15
Software Club - let's say you use one product in your business - valued (low price again if you had to purchase) at $60 - monthly $5
Tools from the Points vault - there are some excellent tools that are general business or motivational - let say $10
Forum - priceless - but for numbers let us again say $10
JV affiliate link - even in a non-IM area there are people who want to market their products online - so through word of mouth - low key referral marketing you should be able to sign up 1 person - so lets say $35

So - at a bare minimum - we are at $95/month. I was ultra-conservative. And I did not take into account JVmanager and JVM2. So I believe TurboMembership is worthwhile in any niche or industry you are in.

Speaking of that last point - the JV affiliate link for offering TurboMembership - that is something that I have not done personally - and I better make it a priority.
I believe a campaign to sell TurboMembership is in order!

TIO - The Irresistable Offer

A USP - Unique Selling Proposition - has been around for years. It is what a business says that they do differently.

There has been many definititions, depending on who you talk to, of how to express a USP, what should or should not be included, etc.

For large companies it is often vague, and for small companies it can be unclear, not followed, and unrealistic.

Mark Joyner has wrote a book about this, and renamed the USP as the TIO - The Irresistable Offer.
"..it's the beast (and maybe only) true alternative to the traditional form of selling with its sentimental manipulation, marketing trickery, and decreasing effectiveness. The Irresistable Offer is so good and so easy to understand that buying from you becomes a no-brainer for your customers. But it's not a one-time special or a 'unique selling proposition.' The Irresistable Offer is the offer that defines your business and becomes your raison d'etre."

A couple good examples:

'Fresh, hot pizza to your door in 30 minutes or less or its Free!'
'When it absolutely has to be there overnight'

It is something that frames your business. Something you can build on. Something that you can use again and again in all advertising, from basic adds, to long copy sales letters. Something that stands the test of time.

It also has to convey what you do clearly to your customer - no questions asked.

And it has to incorporate a guarantee somehow. It does not have to so it outright, but does have to imply it in the wording.

It really should define your business and make you focus on what your business really does for the consumer.

In that three seconds - one . . . . . two . . . . . three . . . . . - that the consumer sees your business, talks to you, reads your add, clicks on your website - before their mind goes racing back to whatever else they are doing - it positions you in their subconscious. So that if they need your service, your product - they will chose you over anyone else.

What really is freedom?

Is it doing nothing? laying in a hammock in the back yard watching butterflies?

I think true freedom is more about being busy - very busy.

You see - when one has nothing to do - no wants, no cares, nothing.

Then life lacks meaning - lacks purpose.

One feels lost, alone.

But if you are full of drive, full of energy, working towards a great goal.

Then you are busy, full of vigor - passion overflowing.

But you know what you want and you are working towards it. Doing exactly what you want - what you need to achieve what you want. Day by day, minute by minute - filled to the brim - hard at work - but lovin' every minute of it.

Now compare the two - the first - dull, boring, lazy, no purpose, but all the time in the world. And the second - busy, exciting, full of purpose, and not enough time in the day.

Which is real freedom?

Well - what is the definition of freedom?

From wikipedia we get 'Freedom is a many-faceted, positive term encompassing the ability to act consciously, in a well-balanced manner and with self control in a given constructive direction.'

Well I think that the second scenario fits better.

I have had most of my life where I have been full of passion, an internal passion fueling me to do more, work harder. Some might have said I was a workaholic at times.

I have also had a few times in the last few years where I took time to smell the roses. Took time to lay in a hammock and watch the butterflies.

And the time that I felt alive - felt free - felt like I was flying with the eagles - was when I had that passion burning within me. Working tirelessly towards a goal - a vision of what I wanted.

Follow up on ConquerYourNiche Forum

Just wanted to add a bit to my post yesterday in regards to the new Russel Brunson forum - ConquerYourNiche.com.

The forum is a new viral marketing idea. As a concept for viral marketing, for the forum owner - it is an amazing new idea. The launch was done fairly low key, but picked up huge momentum as people jumped on the idea of passing it on and getting people to sign up below them (and the opportunity of more points and cash if they upgrade).

As a forum itself, it has lots of members, and huge activity for such a new forum. Also from reading quite a few posts, the quality of information is quite good. I do have concerns that you may see 'post stuffing' as people try to get points by adding low quality posts. Hopefully the moderators will keep that in check somehow. Time will tell on the long term value of the forum as a source of networking and information.

And finally, the forum as an advertising venue. Here is - in my humble opinion - where it falls short. I have read statistics (although I cannot quote where at this time) that shows advertising on forums has an extremely low click-thru ratio. My own personal observation is that when I am at a forum, I am there to read the posts, not the ads. In fact, many times I do not even notice the ads on many forums.

The ConquerYourNiche forum has 4 ads above the fold, just below the header, and 4 ads below the fold at the bottom of the page. For each credit you accumulate, you get to have your ad exposed to someone viewing the site. I would think the click-thru rate on the bottom 4 ads would be neglible. The click thru rate on the top ads would be somewhat better, but as you have to scroll to read posts, these would very quickly be off your screen. Possibly between post ads may be a better solution.

I would therefore not recommending upgrading. There is no accountability of when and how many times your ad is shown. There is no direct way to measure results or split test accurately. Also the target market is limited to Internet Marketing.

Perhaps with refinement, I may change my opinion. It would also depend on how much you used the forum (as you get credits for posting and reading). Presently I am active on too many other forums to have the time to get active on this forum.

I am like an animal being held by the tail, always swinging around to see what's holding me.

That is what it's like on the Turbocommunity!

I make a post, and then it grabs me, a new reply, so I gotta swing around and see what somebody said.

It can be a huge time waster.
But can also be a huge resource.

The biggest thing is to get a system. And be in control.

Don't just spend all your time on forums, whether it is the turbo forum or any other.

And set a time limit - that way you won't waste your time endlessly.

And learn how to use the tools - have a good sig, use good copy, use the new / recent posts feature. And the search feature.

Adsense sites

I have been hard at work lately.

I have a number of projects on the go - and have come up with two more I want to get started ASAP. One of them is a big one that I think has HUGE potential, so can't wait to get it going.

One of the things that has been on the backburner has been my adsense network. JP's sites that we get every month are excellent. As long as you do some customization, and have a plan to fit them into your long term plan, I feel they are gold!

But I have not had the time to do what I want with them. I need to get them all up ASAP. And then have to make some plans and ideas on marketing them.

A question - what's the best way to market a series of Adsense sites?

Also, who has had good luck with their adsense sites?

RSS Content on your Website

Well Today was all about RSS

I started this morning on building a couple content pages,

and somehow it moved into RSS and before I knew it I had 15

windows open all about RRS and how to display content on your

webpage.

I had thought about using RSS a few times, but had never

gotten around to it. But for some reason this morning was the

day. I ended up looking around for some good info on how to

get up and going with it, and found this great little report (download RSS Report).

Well Lynette (the author of the report) go me going, and

after I had tried a few different options I found Carp - a great RSS to HTML converter.

Simple program built in php. Very easy to install and set

up, and super simple to put the code onto my sites.

Check out Financial-view.com/newsrelease for my first run.

Now that I know how to use RSS on my websites, it will bring

a whole new world of content that I can add. Building pages

will be easier as I can build them around various content

sources. Carp also has a paid version - I only tried the free

one for now. But from what I read, and with the low price, I

will be upgrading very soon to use the full features of

RSS.

I have been diligently studying the experts. This week has

been Mark Joyner. Amazing man with extroidinary marketing

intelligence. He has done some amazing things in the past. He

really is one fo the legendary pioneers of marketing on the

internet. He was credited with selling one of the first

E-books (Although Marlon Sanders may have been there at the

start too - more on Marlon another time).

Back to Mark Joyner. Mark was writing and doing things back

3-4 years ago that people are thinking are cutting edge write

now. He had incredible insight. He has also been able to

bring many of his ideas mainstream through best selling books -

not just e-books targeted at online marketing.

Mark has a couple projects on the go right now. One of them

is Simpleology - the simple science of getting what you want.

I truly recommend it.

Google Adsense Section Targeting

Google introducted Adsense Section Targetting some time ago.

If you dont know what it's all about, it basically allows you to better manage what sections of content on the page you want Adsense to target.

One the flipside, you can also specify what sections of the page you dont want adsense to take into consideration.

For a new site I was optimizing, on the homepage I was getting all these unrelated ads due to a large text link nav menu bar. By sectioning off the nav bar code using these tags:

As soon as the Google Media bot next came around, the ads became relevant.

Alternatively, if your just wanting to target adsense with certain sections of the page, use the following start tag instead:

IM Twisting

In my post on forum marketing I mentioned IM Twisting. There are two meanings to IM Twisting. The first is the easiest to do. When you are discussing one topic, and want to discuss a different topic, you apply IM Twisting to bridge between the two topics. This you are twisting the subject matter, as it relates to Internet Marketing, to bring you to the next topic.

The second meaning or application of IM Twisting relates to larger scale, either product creation, or product usage. You take an existing product/tool/concept in internet marketing and you add some other ideas and internet marketing strategies to it to create new and better product/tool/concept. It could also be done to change the application of a product.

IM Twisting has been done by many gurus, but I just put a term to use that describes what people have been doing.
